Often, truck beds with non-removable tonneau covers feature carpeting and interior lights for easy visibility and cargo protection. Non-removable tonneau covers are usually factory installed and do not allow the convenience of loading tall or large cargo.

Removable tonneau covers provide an easy solution for protecting smaller cargo, reducing gas costs, and for carrying larger cargo. Normally installed by the owner or a third party, removable tonneau covers are available in many styles. Some removable tonneau covers are easy to install and require no tools, while others may take up to two hours.

Typically, soft removable tonneau covers take less installation time and are easier to remove than hard removable tonneau covers. Soft removable tonneau covers are lighter weight and may provide even better gas mileage for your truck, as long as they are pulled across the truck bed tightly.

Soft tonneau covers may be removable by snaps, hook and loop Velcro-style, zippers, locks, and more. Hard removable tonneau covers typically feature a lock and typically need to be unscrewed from the frame. Some hard tonneau covers can be folded up and stored against the truck's rear window, and others also have a retractable feature.

But in the end, both removable and non-removable tonneau covers provide gas price relief for truck owners, and are excellent protection for smaller cargo.
